The Excellent Accommodations at Natural Bridge

Natural Bridge State Resort Park’s Hemlock Lodge features 35 rooms. The rooms at the far end of the lodge sport balconies lying under a full canopy of trees. The view from these rooms is especially beautiful when staying during the summer.

The lodge’s restaurant is typical of the other Kentucky state resort park restaurants. Quality southern-styled food abounds, with the occasional buffet adding to the culinary options. There is also a snack bar located near the park’s Hoedown Island activity center.

In addition to the Hemlock Lodge, Natural Bridge offers a campground with 94 sites, and there are also eight cottages available for a more private stay. Included in the campground are 12 primitive sites for those truly wanting an escape to nature.

Outdoor Activities in Red River Gorge Region

Natural Bridge lies within the Red River Gorge area which is home to many outdoor activities, including hiking, rafting, and rappelling. The park itself features nine different hiking trails ranging in length from a half mile all the way to almost nine miles. There is a moderately strenuous trail that leads to the Natural Bridge; the fitness-challenged also have the option to take a sky-lift up to the bridge for a nominal fee.

The park’s Hoedown Island is home to the occasional square-dance or bluegrass concert. Nearby pedal boats, hydro-bikes, and mini-golf also add to the family-friendly atmosphere. There is a swimming pool located at the lodge which stays open during the non-winter months.

Slade is also home to a few curious shops and eateries. The Daniel Boone Trading Post is worth a visit to get a taste of the local mountain flavor.
